Are you a fan of work parties?
Wednesdays are quickly becoming one of my favorite nights of the week. Yes, it’s hump day, and we’re all doing the mid-week dance. And if you’re not, you should!
Even though I wake up every morning and do work I love, my mind is still programmed to look forward to the weekends. There’s just something about pretending to sleep in on Saturday morning, and enjoy brunch on an early Sunday afternoon.
Let’s be real here, who doesn’t love brunch out on the porch of your favorite restaurant on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Balmy weather and the cool twitches of fall call my name every time. Besides, who can resist bottomless mimosas, French toast or hot mochas?
All that to say, Wednesdays are also a day I look forward to! Every Wednesday night, a group of friends gets together for a Work Party. After all, we all have things to get done, so why not hang out together and make them happen!
We’ve all heard of the awesome things that happen in Masterminds. Work Parties are another way to stay encouraged no matter where you are on your journey to greatness.
Relationships are key. You’ve heard it said, there’s no business without the customers. There’s no life without the people in it.
We’re all “busy” which is a word I’m developing a strong dislike for, and when we get “busy” relationships tend to be the first thing to go.
Going it alone may seem better, easier, but there’s a reason we’re meant to be together.
As an extrovert, I tend to get my best work done in a room full of people or a packed coffee house. The positive vibes help my energy levels, but it’s more than just that.
We know it’s important to surround yourself with people who will bring you up, who believe in your dreams and encourage you. Work Party nights are full of precisely those kinds of people.
Although we spend some time laughing and talking, we also hone in, focus and get things done.
Self-motivation is great to have, and also an incentive for getting things done. Even better is surrounding myself with the same kind of people, because if they can get things done, so can you!
For a successful work party it’s key to do the following:
- Pick a time limit – generally 2-3 hours
- Select one key goal to focus on – Work Parties aren’t that long, so you should only work on one thing, even it means organizing and planning your schedule.
- Share your goals for accountability and have fun
Laughter is the best medicine, and I always remind myself, if it’s not fun, if there’s not joy, what’s the point?
Although I like fun, I’m always up for a challenge, and that keeps my brain from becoming too bored and inactive.
Being a part of fun, focused, driven group has helped me prioritize and achieve more. It’s one of those nights where I don’t have to feel bad for focusing on work.
What helps you get things done?
