How long have you been writing your book? Has it been years? Or perhaps time isn’t on your side, but your book is dying to come out!

I’m going to tell you something that may shock some of you: I wrote two books in 90 days without losing my mind, divorcing my husband, or letting go of my business.

Today I want to show you exactly what I did to write two books (not at the same time, mind you) in a period of 90 days while running a business, keeping sane and staying married. I’ve interviewed Bestselling authors on how they wrote their books when running a business and having a family to take care of and they all validated my own strategies.

Make Writing a Priority.

This may sound simple and crazy, but it’s the truth. When I was writing my books, I had to force myself to make writing a priority. In order to make writing a top priority in my life and business, I had to write down when I was going to write inside my book in my daily planner.

I don’t know about you, but for me, if I didn’t write down when I was going to write in my book, it wouldn’t happen. I have a daily planner and it’s literally my life. If I wanted to write in my book, it had to be put in my calendar. If your calendar dictates your life, then writing down when you’re going to write is top priority.

According to the Huffington Post, when you write down your goals, you’re 42% more likely to get them done. Even talking to a few authors, they all told me that they had to write down time to write when as well.

Mere Minutes.

Have you heard of those authors who write for 8-10 hours a DAY? How many of you have time for that?

NOT ME! I run a business, I have a house to keep up with, a husband to feed and so many other responsibilities! How was I able to write my book in 90 days without divorcing anyone or anything?

I decided that I would write for 10-15 minutes at a time.

I didn’t have all kinds of time to write, but I did have 10-15 minutes to write. And I only wrote 2-3 times a week!

Here’s a small disclaimer: When inspiration hit me, I wrote for longer periods of time, maybe 20-30 minutes. Then there were days when I would write for an hour. Here’s my point: Make room for when inspiration hits you and honor that time. Then make room in your life to write for a longer period of time.

For example: Monday – Friday, you commit to writing between 10-15 minutes at a time (and write it in your calendar!), then commit to going to McDonalds and letting your kids play on the playground while you write for an hour or two, or go to the library or favorite coffee shop and write. Make it a priority.

Creative Space.

I believe one of my ways that I am always creating inspiration is by creating an atmosphere of creativity and encouragement around me. My last tip is to ensure your space is inspiring and creative. I have my own office and I have decorated it with paintings, inspirational quotes, a comfy chair, and gifts from my husband.

Now some are saying, “I don’t have an office!” I know some of you are writing at your dining room table and are saying, “That’s boring.” Here is a suggestion for you:

Create a space or a nook in your house where that’s your dedicated writing place. It doesn’t have to be big, but make it creative by placing items that inspire you and makes you feel uplifted. If this space has to be your dining room table, then add things that would inspire you to write. It doesn’t have to complicated, just a few things can change the atmosphere a lot!

And I do recommend to go out and write; go to a coffee shop, your library, a coworking space, the park, or another location that gets you out of your four walls and into open space.

Writing your book doesn’t have to take a year and it doesn’t have to be drawn out to where you’re writing for hours on end every day and missing out on your family or loved ones. I promise, you don’t have to lose your mind, your soul or your loved ones when you write your book! Just incorporate these few tips into your life and you’ll be off to a great start! But you have to be intentional about it.
