How do you prepare for an adventure?
Day 24 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge is all about travel essentials for your desired location. There are many questions to ask before hitting the road.
What are your travel essentials for your chosen destination(s)?
Currently I’m putting together a wishlist on Airbnb and first stop is a tree-house.
Yes, you heard right, I think it would be interesting to stay in a tree-house. Growing up my sisters and I had a playhouse which was our favorite place to play. There’s something about having your own space up in tree plus it’s a secluded getaway surrounded by nature.
Although the tree-house I picked out has a hot tub included (I know, there’s nothing like those extra amenities), I could see myself sitting outside in a tree writing for days. There’s not much to take on a tree-house vacation besides food, wine and some way of accessing the internet. After all a tree-house in a volcano in Hawaii is not the most centrally located technology hub.
The beauty of nature is a huge inspiration for my novels.
Most descriptions I write are overwhelmed with the visuals my mind creates, which is why I want to go to Europe for an extended stay to travel those hallowed roads and dive into the history built on those lands.
My first trip to Ireland I found myself tucked away in a place called Sandycove. Although Joyce’s Tower is there as a tourist attraction, there is also the Forty Foot when naked people jump into 30 degree water for the thrill of it. (Ok so maybe they weren’t naked and it wasn’t 30 degrees but the water was burrr cold!).
There’s a fantastic pub called Fitzgerald’s where they serve the best seafood chowder I ever tasted in my life. I’d be back there in a heartbeat, writing my tales as fast as my fingers could type while enjoying the view of Sandycove.
I think nature calls to use in many different ways. One of my inspirations for my view on life was taken from “Into the Wild” a fantastic book of one man’s journey. I don’t know if he found what he was looking for, I don’t know if the ending was expected, but what I do know is this:
“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
