Yes, you heard right. It’s time to give up on your dreams.

As a matter of fact, it’s time to stop dreaming.

It’s time to give up on those out of reach goals. Those illusionary dreams which are just out of your fingertips.

It’s time to stop sighing and wishing and dreaming. It’s time to make it happen!

When I was a little girl I dreamed of writing of a book. Actually that’s not quite true. I dreamed of writing a book series, and later turning that book series into movies, much like Lord of the Rings.

I was wowed and impressed with the level of commitment and the years that went into making those movies. (Yes, I did watch all the bonus features and special effects!)

So, when I was 12 I pulled out a sheet of notebook paper and began to write. I would write early in the morning, as soon as school was over, and late at night. Four years later, hundreds of thousands of words, both handwritten and typed, what did I have to show for it?

5 novels deeply inspired by action/adventure books and movies, creative games I played with my four sisters, and fanciful dreams I had.

Yes, you heard right, by the time I was 16 I had already written five novels.

But what happened to those?

Sometimes when we’re young we have amazing dreams, but we don’t have the experience and knowledge and expertise to fulfill them. In fact, after graduating from college I left my words behind. But the further I got away from novel writing, the more I realized I missed it.

The Five Warriors Cover ArtThere is something about sitting down to write a work of fiction, something that comes out of your head and turns into a story on paper. Often times when I’m writing, my characters seem to write the story themselves, spinning it out of control, taking it on a path of their own.

I missed the excitement that followed storytelling. I missed the adventures the characters created with their whimsical choices. Which is why I officially started re-writing the series a couple of years ago.

Once I got started, and put my mind to it, it happened. Which is why I am thrilled to announce the first book in the series is available now!

What did it take?

It was quite the intensive journey from first draft to final draft, and I could not be more pleased with the team of people who had the opportunity to work on this project with me.

Now it is a dream I have given up on, because it’s not a dream any more, it’s a reality. It took time, determination, energy, and the tenacity not to give up and give in. Because let’s face it, it’s always much easier to give up on our dreams than to focus on them with pigheaded determination.

I truly believe the one key reason successful people are successful, is because of their determination. We all have times when we’re motivated and uber productive, and some days it’s much easier to binge watch a television series on Netflix.

A second key is to surround yourself with motivators and encouragers, people who believe in your work and can cheer you on. We all need a community that builds us up instead of tearing us down.

The third key is to hone in on the skills you are good at, and hire people to do the things you aren’t so great at. My digital marketing skills came into play planning the launch of this book and promoting it across the internet. But I left the cover design to a skilled designer and the proofreading and editing of the book to a skilled fiction editor.

Remember, as you get ready to turn your dreams into reality, that you don’t need to be good at everything. But you do need determination and focus to get you there.

Are you ready to stop dreaming? What project are you going to focus on transforming from a dream into reality?
